| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: South Bay sculptor David Middlebrook has just completed his most comprehensive piece of large scale public art for the city of Milwaukee, WI. This 25 ton, 40 foot gateway entrance piece, for Gordon Park was a nationally awarded commission. The arch is comprised of a 19 foot white Italian marble carved "iceberg" and a 3 ton, 11 foot fingerprint carved column of black basalt. The fingerprints and the ethnic history of the people of Milwaukee were collected by Mr. Middlebrook at a neighborhood meeting. The arch is formed by a 3 foot bronze anvil protruding from the iceberg, touching a composition of bronze ethnic icons cascading across the arch. The piece celebrates the history of the formation of the Great Lakes (iceberg) the development of the industrial revolution (anvil) and the people and the cultures that built and formed the tool town of Milwaukee (fingerprints and icons). Mr. Middlebrook teaches sculpture at San Jose State University and is also the Associate Director of fine arts. He has done over 30 public art pieces nation wide. This piece is scheduled for installation in mid June in Milwaukee. |
